Originally from Transylvania, Elie Wiesel was fteen when his family was sent to Auschwitz. Later, Wiesel studied in Paris and became a journalist, authoring more than sixty books, ction and non ction. For his literary and human rights activities, he has received numerous awards including the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Grand-Croix in the French Legion of Honor. In 1986 Wiesel won the Nobel Prize for Peace, and soon after he and his wife, Marion, established The Elie Wiesel Foundation for Humanity, an organization created to ght indi erence, intolerance, and injustice. Jean-Michel Berts has been a photographer since age sixteen. With his rst Rollei ex camera he became sensitive to the e ects of light. Today Berts enjoys an international reputation and exhibits his work at galleries in Berlin, Paris, London, New York, and Tokyo.
