Cats’ antics are illustrated in Steinlen’s (French, 1859-1923) most famous book, Des chats: images sans paroles (Cats: Pictures without Words), ca. 1898, a copy of which is in the Museum’s collection. The charming images on our enchanting salt and pepper shakers are adapted from Des chats.
