François Pompon: Polar Bear Mini Sculpture from The Met Museum

$28

This small resin mini sculpture recalls the famous L’Ours Blanc by François Pompon (French, 1855-1933). A one-time assistant to Auguste Rodin, Pompon first showed this charming white polar bear figure in plaster at the Paris Salon d’Automne in 1922, where it was a critical success. Its great popularity led to its production in a variety of sizes and mediums, including plaster, porcelain, and marble-even a large stone version commissioned by the French government in 1927.
