Eyes of Khnumnakht’s Coffin Mug from The Met Museum

$22

The watchful eyes on our mug reference a detail from the coffin of Khnumnakht (ca. 1850-1750 B.C.), a spectacularly painted wood coffin from Egypt’s Middle Kingdom in The Met collection. Although Khnumnakht is an unknown individual with the exception of his name, his coffin is remarkably embellished with texts and decorative panels, including a goddess figure on the head end-which was rare before the late Middle Kingdom-and a pair of eyes that look forth into the land of the living.
