Cavarozzi Basket of Fruit Pillow from The Met Museum

Our 100% silk satin pillow features a detail from Basket of Fruit (ca. 1620) by Bartolomeo Cavarozzi (Italian, 1587-1625), also known as the Master of the Acquavella Still Life. This sumptuous work in The Met collection depicts fruit and foliage in a simple basket against a monochrome background, evoking Caravaggio’s (Michelangelo Merisi) (Italian, 1571-1610) similar Basket of Fruit (ca. 1595-96). Cavarozzi was a leading exponent of still-life painting in both Italy and Spain, where he accompanied his patron, the nobleman Giovanni Battista Crescenzi, in 1617-19.
